The Kitchen House - Kathleen Grissom
Fantastic historical novel, set in the American South in the late 1700s early 1800s. This is a hell of a debut novel for this author.

Lavinia is an orphan who becomes an indentured slave to a white family. She is put to in the kitchen house work along with the other slaves, and she slowly becomes part of their family...She is slowly taken into the main house as well and the White family that own her. These people have secrets and troubled trouble lives...Lavinia is thrust in to this and she is torn between these two worlds, and rapidly her loyalties are tested.

This book was a fast and intense read, I could not stay away. This story is exquisitely written, and done in a way where you are thrown into Lavinia's world so deeply that her difficult path is one you trod with her. Fantastic, truly good, for anyone.

I loved and recommend .
